Hiking - STAC Hamilton

Hiking

Our hiking program aims to alleviate social isolation and improve the well-being of socially excluded and marginalized youth (BIPOC, low-income, at-risk etc.)in the City of Hamilton through adapted social hikes.

Hiking

STAC hiking: Empower socially isolated and marginalized youth to achieve greater well-being and social connection.

STAC’s Hiking Program helps youth from vulnerable and underserved backgrounds build stronger connections to their community through outdoor exploration, teamwork, and mentorship. Many participants face social and economic barriers that limit their ability to engage in safe, positive group activities. By providing accessible, guided hikes in local trails and conservation areas, the program creates an inclusive environment where youth can connect with peers, mentors, and the natural world.

Through shared experiences on the trail, participants develop a sense of belonging, teamwork, and pride in their community. Hikes encourage conversation, collaboration, and reflection—helping youth strengthen social skills and confidence while forming meaningful relationships. In turn, these connections foster greater community integration, empowering young people to see themselves as active, valued members of their city.

Our Hiking Program targets youth in The City of Hamilton, ON who range in age from 5 years old-19 years old and who are socially isolated from their peers and their community. Our Hiking Program utilizes the Hamilton Trail System for the weekly weekend sessions: The Bruce Trail, Dundas Valley, Hilton Falls, Crawford Lake, City View Park, Chedoke radial trail, Hamilton to Ancaster rail trail, Royal Botanical Gardens, Hidden Valley Park, Dundas Peak
