STAC cycling: strengthening the mental well-being and overall quality of life of vulnerable youth.

STAC’s Cycling Program creates a sense of belonging and connection for vulnerable and socially isolated youth through active participation, mentorship, and community engagement. Many of these young people face barriers such as limited access to recreational spaces, financial constraints, and a lack of supportive peer networks. By offering inclusive, cost-free group rides and skill-building sessions, the program helps youth rediscover confidence, build friendships, and strengthen their physical and mental well-being.

Cycling as a group encourages teamwork, trust, and shared accomplishment—powerful antidotes to isolation. Youth connect with mentors and peers in an environment that promotes open conversation, encouragement, and positive social interaction. Through the simple act of riding together, participants experience belonging, independence, and empowerment, helping them feel more connected to their community and to themselves.

Our Cycling Program targets youth in The City of Hamilton, ON who range in age from 5 years old-19 years old and who are socially isolated from their peers and their community. Youth embark on a 2-hour bike ride during the Spring & Summer seasons every Saturday morning. Youth who do not own their own bike are welcome to use the Hamilton Bike Share program as a means to participate despite any financial constraints.
